Global Collaboration with South Korea’s Oldest University: Yonsei University (YSU)

            On June 18, 2567 at 09:30 local time, the Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University, led by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Associate Professor Dr. Thongchai Fongsamootr, along with administrators and faculty members, including:

  • Prof. Dr. Chatchawan Chaichana, Associate Dean
  • Prof. Dr. Korrakot Yaibuathet Tippayawong, Assistant Dean and Director of CM-IES
  • Prof. Dr. Wassanai Wattanutchariya, Assistant Dean and Associate Professor, Department of Industrial Engineering
  • Prof. Dr. Santi Phithakkitnukoon, Head, Department of Computer Engineering
  • Prof. Dr. Paramet Wirasanti, Deputy Head, Department of Electrical Engineering
  • Prof. Dr. Watchapon Rojanaratnangkule, Assistant Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering
  • Lieutenant Junior Grade Dr. Chana Sinsabvarodom, Lecturer, Department of Civil Engineering

Moved forward to build a collaboration network with leading universities in the Republic of Korea. They had an opportunity to meet and pay a courtesy visit to Prof. Dr. Chungyong Lee, Dean of the College of Engineering, Yonsei University, along with other executive team members as follows:

  • Dr. Jong-Moon Chung, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering
  • Dr. JunHee Kim, Head of Dept. of Architecture & Architectural Engineering
  • Dr. Woochul Kim, Professor of School of Mechanical Engineering and Director, Pioneer Research Center
  • Hyoungkwann Kim, Professor of Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Later that same day, representatives from the Faculty of Engineering visited the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, part of the College of Engineering at Yonsei University, known as one of the top departments in Asia for Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.

 

Yonsei University was founded in 1885 and is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in South Korea. It excels in research and teaching, especially in engineering and technology. Additionally, it has a world-renowned reputation for its cutting-edge educational quality, being ranked the No. 1 University in South Korea according to the QS World University Ranking 2024. It has also been internationally accredited by IEQAS as being friendly to international students. Moreover, it is part of the "SKY" group, which consists of the three most popular universities in the country: Seoul National University, Korea University, and Yonsei University.

 

This visit aimed to build a strong network with leading universities in the Republic of Korea and discuss future opportunities for academic and research collaboration, including staff and student exchanges, short-term Winter/Summer Camp activities, joint programs, and collaborative research projects, which will greatly benefit the faculty's students.
