A delegation from the Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University (CMU), led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Korrakot Yaibuathet Tippayawong, Vice Dean and Director of CM-IES, and Dr. Faifan Tantakitti, Assistant Dean and Deputy Director of CM-IES, along with faculty members from the Department of Mechanical Engineering include Prof. Dr. Nakorn Tippayawong, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watchapon Rojanaratanangkule, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering participated in the Indo-Thailand Workshop on AI-Driven Innovations at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar), India, from March 24-28, 2025. Additionally, 10 selected students from various engineering disciplines at ENG CMU took part in the workshop:

  1. Matt Cosh – Information and Network Engineering
  2. Miss Varothai Phodi – Information and Network Engineering
  3. Miss Kanonlas Rattanapak – Computer Engineering
  4. Miss Tikomporn Keawwong – Computer Engineering
  5. Miss Zulfa Hana Maulida – Agricultural Engineering
  6. Miss Nattida Phaiboontanasan – Computer Engineering
  7. Yotsawat Sukinee – Computer Engineering
  8. Jatuporn Sukoum – Energy Engineering
  9. Piyawut Buncharoen – Information and Network Engineering
  10. Bhupha Phanphaeng – Software Engineering (CAMT)

The workshop aimed to exchange knowledge and enhance AI-driven problem-solving experiences in engineering and science. Participants engaged in insightful lectures and hands-on activities, including:

  • Visualizing the Thought Process of LLMs – Understanding the conceptual framework of Large Language Models (LLMs) and their reasoning process.
  • AI for Healthcare – Exploring AI applications in the medical industry to improve diagnostics and treatments.
  • AI-Assisted Energy Portfolio Optimization for Grid Management – Using AI to enhance energy management, reduce costs, and efficiently integrate renewable energy sources.

Additionally, students participated in language and cultural exchange activities, broadening their perspectives on AI applications while strengthening academic ties between CMU and IIT Gandhinagar.

After the workshop's opening ceremony, the CMU delegation engaged in discussions with IITGN representatives regarding academic collaboration. Key areas of future cooperation include:

  • Hosting joint workshops at CMU with IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Kanpur.
  • Developing internship and student exchange programs.
  • Establishing double-degree master’s programs in Advanced Computing, Data Science, and Georesources.
  • Collaborating on research in key areas such as railway systems, electric vehicles (EVs), semiconductors, energy, urban intelligence, and human-centered robotics.

This visit marks a significant milestone in strengthening academic and research collaborations between CMU and IIT Gandhinagar, fostering knowledge exchange and innovation across multiple disciplines, ultimately contributing to sustainable development in the future
