To commemorate its 55th anniversary, the Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University (CMU) hosted the “55th Anniversary Celebration: International Networking and Engineering Symposium 2025” under the theme “Engineering the Future”, held from June 2–4, 2025. The event highlighted the faculty’s leadership in engineering education and research at the national level and reinforced its commitment to advancing global academic collaboration.
The Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University, was established on June 3, 1970, and has consistently upheld its mission to produce engineers with strong academic knowledge, professional competence, and a deep sense of social responsibility to support the nation’s sustainable development. Over the past five decades, the faculty has significantly contributed to knowledge generation, research development, and academic services, while continuously preparing human resources to meet the demands of an increasingly dynamic and interconnected world.
The symposium was co-organized by the Chiang Mai International Engineering School (CM-IES) and the Research, Innovation, and Academic Services Unit, Office of the Faculty. The event served as a vibrant platform for academic exchange and partnership-building among researchers and institutional leaders from CMU’s global network. Its objectives were to strengthen academic excellence, expand international collaborations, exchange innovative practices, and promote joint research and engineering initiatives.
The event welcomed over 130 participants from 28 institutions across 13 countries and 1 territory, highlighting the international community’s confidence in Chiang Mai University’s role as a regional hub for engineering education and collaboration.
On the evening of June 2, 2025, a welcome reception in the form of a traditional “Kad Mua” was held, featuring Northern Thai cuisine and Lanna cultural elements. The atmosphere offered international guests a warm and memorable cultural experience unique to Northern Thailand.
The official opening ceremony was held on June 3 at the SMC Hub (Siam Multi Cons Building) and was presided over by Professor Pongruk Sribanditmongkol, M.D., Ph.D., President of Chiang Mai University.
This special symposium not only celebrated the faculty’s rich legacy but also laid the foundation for future directions—driving knowledge creation, innovation, and international collaboration to meet 21st-century global challenges.
“Engineering the Future” encapsulates more than a theme; it reflects a shared vision and collective mission to build a sustainable future through the transformative power of engineering.
