The Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University, proudly announces the outstanding achievement of its representatives at the International Project-Based Learning (iPBL) Wind Turbine Design and Construction Competition, held in Japan from 18–24 August 2025 and hosted by Osaka Institute of Technology.

Led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nat Vorayos, Asst. Prof. Dr. Chakkapong Chamroon, and Dr. Krit Sujarittam from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the CMU team comprised three undergraduate students:

  • Thanadech Promwichai (Student ID 650610554)
  • Nawapon Puttachai (Student ID 660610587)
  • Intharat Suksri (Student ID 660610695)

The competition challenged participants to design and build a horizontal-axis wind turbine equipped with a wind lens, with an emphasis on maximizing efficiency while minimizing vibration. Students were required to integrate knowledge from diverse engineering fields such as fluid dynamics, structural design, and vibration analysis. They also sharpened essential soft skills, including teamwork, idea presentation, and decision-making under time pressure, while working alongside peers from Osaka Institute of Technology (Japan), National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan), and Can Tho University (Vietnam).

The CMU representatives achieved remarkable success:

  • First Prize: Mr. Nawapol Putthachai and Mr. Intharach Suksri
  • Second Prize: Mr. Thanadet Promwichai

The iPBL program, first launched in 2014 through the collaboration of Osaka Institute of Technology and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, has become an annual event aimed at promoting hands-on learning and cross-cultural exchange. Next year, Can Tho University (Vietnam) will serve as the host.

This achievement highlights not only the technical excellence of CMU students but also their ability to collaborate internationally. The experience is expected to play a significant role in shaping their future careers and contributing to the advancement of engineering in Thailand.
