The Faculty of Engineering Hosts Inspiring Guest Lecture on Food Sustainability and Resilience
September 5th, 2025, Chiang Mai International Engineering School (CM-IES), Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University, had the honor of welcoming Professor Bob Doherty, Professor in Marketing and Dean of the School for Business and Society, University of York, UK.
Professor Doherty delivered an insightful lecture on “Food Sustainability and Resilience,” addressing the urgent challenges facing global food systems. He explained how climate change, social inequality, economic pressures, and geopolitical instability are creating new risks for food production and supply. Highlighting his research projects such as FixOurFood and regenerative agriculture initiatives, he discussed how multi-stakeholder collaboration, coherent policy, and innovative farming practices can strengthen resilience across the food chain.
The lecture sparked excellent discussion with CMU students and faculty, opening opportunities for joint research and academic collaboration between CMU and the University of York in the fields of sustainable food systems, resilience, and circular economy.
