The Faculty of Engineering at Chiang Mai University welcomed guests from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today. The delegation was led by Dr. H.I. Malinda M. Abeynayake, Associate Director of Student Innovation for Global Health Technology (SIGHT), and Mr. Tomas Wong, Teaching Assistant. They were warmly received by Asst Prof Dr. Chatchawan Chaichana, Vice Dean, along with Assoc Prof Dr. Wassanai Wattanutchariya and Dr. Faifan Tantakitti, Assistant Deans.

Dr. Abeynayake, an esteemed member of HKUST’s teaching faculty and Associate Director of SIGHT, provided insights into their mission. SIGHT is an interdisciplinary platform that empowers undergraduate students to create solutions for health problems in Asia through design thinking, impact creation, and experiential learning. This mission has driven several health and well-being projects in North Thailand and other countries in Asia over the past few years.

This visit marks an important step in exploring new project opportunities in Thailand, particularly related to global health. It is expected to lay the groundwork for future collaborations between HKUST and local Thai institutions, fostering innovative solutions to improve health outcomes in the region.
